In this way the performance of the individuals who sat a subject is not lost within the general statistics. Individuals who shine in particular subjects can be spotted and this may even be useful in considering further options such as taking the subject further (A level or degree) or avoiding it like the plague.
Beneath the pupil listing are the standard grade distribution figures, again broken down by gender, the subject average grade for comparison with the year average grade and the average grade for these same pupils in all their subjects (N.B. Where a subject is sat by all the year group the last two grades mentioned will actually be the same).
Things to consider
Look at the grade distribution and average ability for the subject - are the grades what you would expect given the ability of the group?
Do girls perform better or worse than boys in this subject? Could the results statistics be affected by the proportions of the girls and boys actually sitting the subject?
Are there too many absences? If so why? Is there a significant proportion failing to hand in the required coursework or are students being encouraged not to attend the examination to massage the results statistics?
Is the subject popular, attracting its percentage of the year group, or are numbers of pupils opting for the subject dwindling? If so, why?
